Filters explained
When you press play, firup looks at the sources your addons offer and puts the best match first. Filters and sorting decide what counts as best. Everything here is free.
Presets: the simple way
- Best quality
- Highest resolution, then the best picture and sound, without camera recordings.
- Balanced
- Good quality at a sensible size: up to 25 GB, smaller files first within a resolution.
- Data saver
- Small files only: no 4K or 1440p, up to 4 GB, at most 10 results.
- 4K HDR home theater
- Top resolution with Dolby Vision or HDR and lossless surround sound preferred.
- Phone / small files
- Compact HEVC files up to 3 GB, no 4K, for a small screen or limited storage.
- Anime
- Prefers dual audio and multi-language releases, then resolution.
An example
Say your addons list three sources for Sintel: a 4K file of 40 GB, a 1080p file of 8 GB and a 720p file of 2 GB. Best quality puts the 4K file first. Balanced skips the 40 GB file and puts the 1080p file first. Data saver skips 4K and picks the smallest.
Quick Play
With Play the best match right away on, firup starts the top result without asking. Ask me when nothing matches shows a choice instead of failing, and Offer to play on a TV lets you cast. Turn them on or off on the Setup page.
The Advanced view
Switch on Advanced on the Setup page to build your own setup. Nothing there is required.
- Include or exclude by resolution, encode, picture (such as HDR), audio, language, quality, type, channels, release group and subtitles.
- Keywords to require or avoid words in a title.
- Size limit and result limit, to keep files small or the list short.
- Sort order: the criteria are applied top to bottom, each ascending or descending, for example resolution first and size second.
- Preferred values that rank higher without excluding the rest.
- Share codes to copy a setup to another account or send it to a friend.
A custom setup you save appears next to the presets and can be chosen like any other.
